On the same day that india promised to react against new british travel regulations that classify people who have received the Covishield vaccine as "unvaccinated," the US announced that it will open its borders to "completely vaccinated" travellers beginning in November. Up to 72 hours prior to departure for the United States, overseas travellers would need confirmation of complete immunisation and a negative Covid-19 test along with a 14-day quarantine.

This issue of whether vaccinations are allowed is at the centre of a diplomatic spat between the UK and the US. Only individuals who have been inoculated “under an authorised vaccination programme in the UK, Europe, the United States, or a UK vaccine programme overseas” would be deemed fully vaccinated, according to guidelines announced by the UK on september 17.

Individuals who have been vaccinated with Covishield the indian form of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine made under licence in india will continue to be subject to the same limitations as those who have not been immunised.

According to reports in the American press, the regulation would apply to the majority of countries, including India. Only US residents and members of their immediate families, green card holders, and those with national interest exemptions (NIE) are permitted to enter the country if they have spent the preceding two weeks in India.
