After the fall of Kabul, Afghanistan's defence minister accepted allegations of "revenge killings" by Taliban militants. There have been allegations of Taliban insurgents killing people in various regions of the nation. Fears of probable repercussions from social media posts grew as a result of the news, and facebook added new capabilities to limit access to information for Afghan users.

Fida, an Afghan guy residing in Kabul, was an outspoken opponent of the Taliban on social media, regularly criticising their policies and behaviour. He has now deactivated his facebook account and is now on a list of persons who will be given refuge by Western nations in the future.

Haris, who now lives in a city under Taliban authority, told the BBC that two days before Kabul fell, he erased his social media accounts because "the Taliban dictatorship is coming and democracy is gone."
