History of World Consumer Rights Day - The idea of celebrating the rights of consumers globally was first originated from the country of America. john F. Kennedy took the initiative to celebrate World Consumer Rights Day, as a result of which, on march 15, 1962, the then President of America, Kennedy sent a message to the US Congress, under which he established the issues of consumer rights on a global level and his Provided complete information about the subject. The consumer movement first started in 1983, under which on 9 april 1985 the United Nations approved the adoption of the General Guidelines for Consumer Protection, after which the rights of consumers became internationally recognized.

Consumer Rights Day in India
The movement for the rights of consumers in india started in the year 1966 in Maharashtra. After the establishment of Grahak panchayat in the year 1974 in Pune, institutions were formed for the welfare of the consumer in many states and with which this movement continued to grow. On 9 december 1986, with the initiative of the then prime minister of india, Rajiv Gandhi, the Consumer Protection Bill was passed which came into force nationwide after the President's signature.
