A special copyright act was passed in 1958 to protect creative works in India. Although its history seems to be connected with the british era. Since then this law has been continuously being improved. The most recent reform in the Copyright Act was in 2012.

The Copyright Act was passed in india on 21 january 1958. Before that, in 1914, the british government had brought the Copyright Act in the country, which was a copy of the Copyright Act passed in england in 1911. It was slightly modified keeping in mind the indian perspective.


What did this law say?

According to this law, only after the completion of fifty years of a photograph, any person other than the original photographer could use that picture without money. This law was later enacted to protect the original creator's rights over other creative products and materials. indian law protects rights relating to writing, drama, music, art, film and sound recording.


What is the meaning of copyright?

Copyright Act is actually the legal rights acquired by the original creator, through which they protect their authorial, dramatic, musical and other artistic works. Copyright law protects the original work from being reproduced, as well as the commercial interests of the original author when it comes to making commercial information available to the public and translated into other languages. However, the copyright period varies depending on the nature of the work.
