UP's electricity consumers will get relief or shock? Commission sought a report in 15 days The decision on whether the electricity consumers of UP will get relief or setback is yet to be decided. The electricity Regulatory Commission has started duly proceeding on the review petition filed for a reduction in electricity rates.

A petition was filed in the Appellate Tribunal on behalf of the five power companies of the state Madhyanchal, Purvanchal, Dakshinachal, Paschimchal, and Kisco on Tuesday. This petition has been made against the new electricity rates issued by the electricity Regulatory Commission. On the other hand, the electricity Regulatory Commission has duly started action on the review petition filed by the State electricity Consumer Council on september 1 regarding the reduction in electricity rates. The Commission has sought a report from the Power Corporation in 15 days regarding the surplus amount of about 25 thousand crores of consumers.

The Consumer Council says that till the year 2019-20, about Rs 22045 crore is being generated surplus by the electricity consumers of the state's electricity consumers. In the same sequence, in the year 2020-21, Rs 3088 crore out in the true-up will also be added, which will increase the total amount to 25133 crores. Awadhesh Verma, President of the Consumer Council, had recently met the Chairman of the Regulatory Commission and demanded a reduction in electricity rates instead of the surplus amount of the consumers.

On the instructions of the Commission President, Secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh has sought a report from the director Commercial of the Corporation on the petition of the Council. After that, the commission will take further action.

On the one hand, the power companies have approached the Tribunal against the decision of the Commission. If there is a decision in favor of the companies, then electricity is likely to be expensive. On the other hand, the council has made companies uneasy with the stakes of reducing rates. On the lines of a reduction of 10 percent in the electricity rates of the consumers of noida Power Company, the council has demanded that all the consumers of the state should be given the benefit of 7 percent reduced rates for the next six years.
