Earthquake: Reason behind the trembling of the earth?

Why delhi is in Zone 4?

Delhi is situated on three fault lines inside the earth's surface. These are the Sohna fault line, mathura fault line and Delhi-Moradabad fault line. Gurugram adjacent to delhi is the most dangerous part of the National capital Region, under which not one or two but 7 fault lines are passing.

Due to being very close to the himalayas, more earthquakes occur in Delhi.

According to the report of the National Center of Seismology, delhi has not been the centre of major earthquakes, but earthquakes in the Hindukush region and the himalayas greatly affect it. Both these areas are very sensitive in terms of vibrations in the ground. The distance of delhi from the himalayas is just 180 km and because of this, the effect of the movement of even a single plate inside the earth is visible inside the earth of delhi as well. In the last 30 days, 90% of the epicentres of the 22 earthquakes around delhi have been inside the Himalayas.

Delhi has been divided into three zones in terms of danger

There was a terrible earthquake in delhi 295 years ago, whose epicentre was below delhi itself. There was a huge loss of life and property in this earthquake. In terms of earthquake data after this, the Union Ministry of Earth Sciences has divided delhi into 3 zones- High Hazard Zone, Low Hazard Zone and Moderate Zone.
