Earlier the most lethal shipwreck so far this year happened on april 22 off libya, when 130 refugees sunk despite the ship conveying multiple distress calls.

A boat ferrying African refugees overturned off Libya's waters Monday, taking away the lives of at least 57 people. It was the latest tragedy in the Mediterranean sea concerning transients seeking a sounder life in Europe.

The boat departed the western coastal town of Khums on Sunday, carrying 75 migrants on board, including ladies and children. Among the 57 assumed dead were 20 women and two children. Eighteen of the wayfarers were saved and returned to the coast by seamen and Libya's coast guard.

The survivors described the vessel had ceased due to an engine failure, then overturned amid adverse weather. Recently, there has been an increase in the number of crossings and attempted crossings.

Libya has risen as the principal transition point for wanderers escaping war and starvation in Africa and the Middle East. The oil-rich nation dived into chaos. These include limited labor, whippings, abductions, and pain. The abuse often follows attempts to wrench money from families before transients are permitted to leave libya on traffickers' vessels.

Earlier this month, Libyan naval officials confirmed that one of their shore guard vessels had shot signal shots at a migrant boat it was trailing in the Mediterranean.
