Several times a year, Martyrs' Day, Shaheed Diwas, or Sarvodaya Day are observed in india to honour those who gave their lives for India's independence from british colonial rule.

The most significant Martyrs' Day is observed on january 30, the day of mahatma Gandhi's passing. The day of march 23, when Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev were hung in 1931, is the second-most popular Martyrs' Day. In india, there are seven Martyrs' Days that are observed. What you need know about them:

30 january On the anniversary of mahatma Gandhi's passing, Martyr's Day is observed. gandhi persisted on his mission to teach nonviolence as a method of achieving political and social progress after india gained its independence in 1947. He continued to encourage peace and brotherhood in the country. As a result, he gained the title "Father of the Nation" and gained notoriety for his nonviolent policies around the globe. He had been the leader of various agitations that aided India's freedom.

He was killed by Nathuram Godse on january 30, 1948, during evening prayers at gandhi Smriti at the Birla House. The central government subsequently proclaimed that day to be Shaheed Diwas.
