Bank employees' unions have announced a strike to condemn the federal government's move to privatize public sector banks.

ATM services are said to be affected as bank employees are set to go on strike for the first two days from today.

Bank employees' unions have announced a strike to condemn the federal government's move to privatize public sector banks. It has been announced that the protest will be held for two days today and tomorrow (December 16, 17), raising concerns that banking services could be severely affected.

Bank employees' unions have strongly objected to reports that a banking bill to privatize public sector banks is to be tabled in parliament.

The Additional Chief Labor Welfare Commissioner negotiated with the unions to avoid a strike.

The unions point out that in the current session of parliament the banks will consider lifting the strike if the federal government promises not to table the bill.

But employees of public sector banks are on strike today and tomorrow because the central government has refused to do so.

Nine lakh workers are participating in the nationwide strike. This poses a risk of affecting banking transactions, including checks and ATMs.

In this context, it is noteworthy that the DMK general secretary Duraimurugan has announced his full support for the bank employees' strike.
