National Toothache Day - 5 causes of toothaches...

National Toothache Day is a crucial reminder to maintain your oral health and get help if necessary.

Dr. Diksha Tahilramani Batra, a prosthodontist, implantologist, and smile design specialist, discussed five prevalent reasons of toothache in an interview with HT Lifestyle.

1. Decay

Dental cavities are the result of this, which are typically treated with merely a filling and only result in minor to moderate discomfort.

A root canal can provide relief from the agonising pain that can result when bacteria that cause decay invade the tooth's nerve.

2. Gum problems

The advancing gum disease may cause pain to all of the mouth's supporting tissues, including the bone and ligaments under the teeth.

When gum problems are bleeding, we must ensure that they are under control before any discomfort arises.

3. Oral infection

Poor oral hygiene habits can lead to serious infections that can even spread to other parts of the body in patients. Pus and bacterial collections, which may or may not be accompanied by pain, are often present. To treat this, the underlying cause of the condition must be eliminated, but oral medication may also be necessary.

4. Impacted wisdom teeth

These wisdom teeth are among the most severe disorders we see, with swelling and radiating pain accompanying them. They haven't entirely erupted out of the mouth and have grown into places where food gets trapped, leading to gum infections as well.

5. Tooth fracture or trauma

If a person loses or breaks a tooth in a dental accident, they could feel the most discomfort. There might also be severe bleeding and edoema in addition to the trauma, whether it was brought on by a fall or intentional injury. Athletes and those in high-impact jobs may frequently run into situations like this.
