The ambitious movie "Shaakuntalam," directed by Gunasekhar, has opened in theatres and is performing well at the box office. Many of Samantha's admirers are gushing about her portrayal in the movie, while a few others have criticised her on social media for being the wrong performer for the part.

Siva Nageswara, the director of Tollywood's "Ninnu Kalisaka," disclosed to ETimes that although samantha had her acting debut with the 2010 movie "Ye Maaya Chesave," he was the first tollywood director to bring her in for an audition. samantha was attending Stella Maris college in chennai when we invited her to hyderabad for the "Ninnu Kalisaka" audition.

As the ticket rates were too high for the day, the director also remembered how they insisted sam stay in hyderabad and travel to chennai the following day. sam wasn't ready to stay back in hyderabad, so the team bought an expensive ticket and sent her back to chennai the same day. "The team had requested sam to stay back in hyderabad for a day and requested her to return on the next day as the transport fare was a little too high on that particular day," he said.

When questioned why samantha wasn't chosen for the role in the film, he responded, "Samantha gave a nice audition, but she asked for a higher remuneration which was going out of the budget of the film, therefore she was not selected for the role but blessed her for her performance."
