Writers paruchuri brothers took inspiration from police officer kiran bedi and added little drama to it to write the story of Karthavyam. The movie showcases how a strict police officer managed to get down the corruptionists that are powerful enough to do anything.
With that movie Vijayasanthi’s career changed for good and she started giving tough competition to her fellow heroes. She won filmfare award, Nandi award and also National film award for her role in the film. Also, the movie which was made on a budget of Rs. 90 lakhs has grossed Rs. 7 crores at the box office.
