According to reports, DC Films president Walter Hamada will refute Amber Heard's assertions that her involvement in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom was slashed. Heard makes her DC Extended Universe debut as Mera, an Atlantean who approaches Arthur Curry to explain the nature of the Mother Boxes, in 2017's Justice League. Following Mera's introduction, Heard returned in 2018 for a significantly larger part in Aquaman, essentially co-starring opposite Jason Momoa in a film that grossed over $1 billion at the box office.

Heard was rehired for the next sequel Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which wrapped filming in january 2022 and is set for a march 17, 2023 release. During her ex-husband johnny Depp's highly publicised defamation trial, Heard testified that Warner Bros. considerably "pared down" her role as Mera in Aquaman 2 as a result of the legal troubles involving Depp. Heard also stated that she was released from her contract and that she is unsure if she would appear in the sequel.

According to a fresh story from Deadline, Hamada will testify in the ongoing Depp-Heard defamation trial, denying the actress' accusations that her role in Aquaman 2 was trimmed. According to the article, Hamada will inform the judge and jury that as a result of Depp's legal action, Heard "suffered no unfavourable reaction from WB" in respect to her Aquaman role. The WB executive is likely to give a virtual deposition.
