Mani Ratnam created the subject of the film and presented it on canvas in a grand manner. kalki Krishnamurthy, a well-known writer from South India, wrote a hit novel on the Chola king under the name ponniyin selvan in several parts. A long time ago, mani ratnam himself wanted to make this film with Kamal Haasan. But couldn't make it. He says, 'I have been working on this subject for a long time. Earlier we were going to make this film with Kamal Haasan, but then the matter did not move forward. I think everything has a time. You try hard, but when the right time comes.
