The least sums for a high-budget movie were collected by Shaakuntalam, which had a production budget of almost 80 crores and only 8 crores in its first weekend of release. There is no chance for the movie to receive any share going forward because the share is not even close to 4 Crores. In light of the current circumstances, the movie's final share is 4 Crores, making it an epic failure.
The movie had all it needed to make a compelling romance drama with a mythological setting, but the weak narrative and lack of any real feelings turned it into a lifeless production that the audience was unable to relate to. Shaakuntalam, a lavishly funded film based on the critically acclaimed sanskrit play by Kalidasa, was made available in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada. The movie, which has also been released in 3D, is produced by neelima Guna and presented by dil raju under the banner of Sri Venkateswara Creations.
