India's flag hoisted at Cannes 2024!!!

These days the prestigious Cannes Film festival is in full swing in France. Celebs from the entertainment world from all over the world are participating in this event. ‘Sunflowers Were the First Ones to Know’ wins award at Cannes

Let us tell you that indian director Chidanand S Naik's film 'Sunflower Were the First Ones to Know' won the first prize for Best Short Story at Cannes 2024. This is an important victory for India. Let us tell you that earlier in the year 2020, Ashmita Guha Niyogi had won this award for her film Catdog. Now, after five years, the country has once again got a chance to be proud. Let us tell you that the prestigious La Sinef awards were announced on 23 May.

'Sunflower Were the First Ones to Know' defeated 17 films

Let us tell you that FTII student Chidanand S Naik's film Sunflower Were the First Ones to Know defeated 17 films for this award.   These films were among the 18 films selected from a huge pool of 2,263 submissions from 555 film schools globally. Cannes will give 15,000 euros for first prize, 11,250 euros for second and 7,500 euros for third.

What is the story of 'Sunflower Were the First Ones to Know'?

Upon completion of his one-year course at the television wing of the indian Film and television Institute, the filmmaker produced this film. This is a film inspired by a kannada folk tale. It depicts the theft of a chicken by an elderly woman, which plunges her village into never-ending darkness.    'Sunflowers Were the First Ones to Know' is a 16-minute short film.
