Veteran actress jaya bachchan opened up about her 52-year marriage to amitabh bachchan in a candid conversation on Mojo Story.
She humorously suggested that amitabh might even call their marriage “the biggest mistake of his life.”
Her reflections highlighted how perspectives on marriage and companionship have evolved over the decades.
Views on Modern Marriage
Jaya emphasized that her comments weren’t rooted in regret; rather, they reflected her comfort with the evolution of her relationship.
She expressed support for her granddaughter, Navya Naveli Nanda, not feeling pressured to marry early.
According to Jaya, legal formalities like paperwork aren’t essential to the depth of a relationship.
“Delhi ka ladoo hai, khao toh mushkil, na khao toh mushkil… Just enjoy life. You don’t have to make it official… we didn’t even sign the register in old times.”
The couple eventually signed the marriage register years after their wedding, humorously noting they had been “living illegally.”
Amitabh Bachchan’s Take
On whether amitabh agrees with her views, Jaya responded with humor and wit:
“I have not asked him. He might say that ‘biggest mistake of my life’, but I don’t want to hear that.”
Her lighthearted remark reflected the mutual understanding and humour in their long-standing partnership.
The Beginning of Their love Story
Despite her modern outlook, Jaya admitted their relationship began with love at first sight.
She stated:
“Do you have to dig into old wounds? I have been married for the last 52 years to the same man. Isse jada pyaar main nahin kar sakti hoon… It was love at first sight.”
A Partnership That Started on Screen
Jaya and amitabh first met while working on the film Guddi.
Amitabh reportedly fell in love with her during Ek Nazar (1972).
The couple married in 1973 and later became parents to abhishek bachchan and Shweta Bachchan.
