There are stars who release their films during the festive seasons and there are few whose release will celebrated as a festival. Thala Ajith is of the second category.  Ajith (Ganesh) arrives Kolkata along with his sister Lakshmi Menon with zero plans. He gets job of a Taxi driver. As per request of Kolkata Police, he provides information that women trafficking happens at a particular spot and the bad guys hunt Ajith. But there comes a twist where Ajith was the one who is in hunt of bad guys. He kills every villain one by one. In a twisted tale of events, he reveals his dark secrets from his past life to Shrutihaasan. Shrutihaasan's brother Ashwin Kakumanu falls in love with Ajith's sister and when things were going fine, Lakshmi Menon gets abducted by villain and what happens finally is the rest of the story.

Ajith has carried the whole movie on his shoulders. His transformation scene in the boat will be the talk of the town for next few years.  His body language and sudden change was just phenomenal.  His screen presence itself is enough to carry the whole movie. Right from the start, he has been the backbone.  Kabir Singh, Aniket Chouhan and Rahul Dev are the bad guys and each of them are highly convincing. Especially Kabir Singh and Rahul Dev scores with their anger and vengeance. Lakshmi Menon has grabbed her career best role of a life time. She was seen in more number than the female lead Shruti haasan. Soori, Kovai Sarala evoke laughter at times and were annoying at times. Thambi Ramiah as a blind father evokes sympathy.

Antony L Ruben's cuts were crisp and they have been neatly done. Vetri's visuals are eye catchy and has caught the beautiful spots of Kolkata. Director Siva deserved a tight slap for as the movie is largely cliched and has a poor plot.  But these days it's all about the screenplay and he has made it racy. Anirudh background score is at the best. He has made a sound response as a music director. All action sequences choreographed by Stunt Silva was a treat to watch. You can't label a particular one as your favourite.

The movie suffers from its usual cliches and melodramatic sequences, but still Ajith is the saving grace and the message which Director Siva wants to convey is appreciable. The message is for men who treat women as sexual objects and just as skin and flesh. Hope this brings a change in our society. You can definitely watch this movie with your family and have a big blast on this Diwali.

Overall, this is a 'Power-Packed' Diwali for 'Vedalam'
