The hyderabad police Department intends to file an appeal with the Juvenile Justice Board to have them tried as adults in the jubilee hills gang rape case. With the gang rape of a 17-year-old in a car provoking national indignation and demands for harsher punishment for the perpetrators, the police plan to file a petition with the Board seeking that the five minors in the case be tried as adults. Only one of the six suspects in the case, Saduddin Malik, is a major, and the police brought him into jail for three days on thursday for additional questioning.

In addition to requesting custody of the juveniles in order to question them, the police intend to file a petition to treat them as adults. This is being done in order to eliminate the possibility of the accused avoiding severe punishment. According to reports, police intend to bring a 2015 change to the Juvenile Justice Act to the Board's attention. It would also mention serious criminal incidents in which the court imposed the heaviest punishment on defendants under the age of 18. Four of the five accused of sexually assaulting the girl are between the ages of 16 and 17. The sixth defendant, who has just been charged with molestation, will turn 18 in a month. He is the son of a Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen Member of parliament (MIM).

Four children have been accused with gang rape, including the son of a telangana rashtra samithi leader (TRS). The leader also serves as the chairman of a government-run organisation. Two more are alleged to be sons of Greater hyderabad and sangareddy municipal officials. The other defendants are from well-to-do families with political clout. Meanwhile, trs working president K.T. Rama Rao has praised and backed the police's position. "If you're old enough to commit a horrific crime like rape, you should be punished as an adult, not a child," he wrote.
