On Wednesday, Rythu Bandhu celebrated its fifth anniversary. Rythu Bandhu was chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao's dream project through which he helped the peasant community while it was entangled in a web of sorrow. Incredibly, 70 lakh farmers across telangana celebrated the anniversary after receiving Rs 65,000 crore in benefits over the course of 10 installments.

The chief minister felt the need to provide them with direct benefits to free them from financial hardship and their dependence on moneylenders after conducting numerous rounds of stocktakes of the appalling conditions in which the farmers lived in the State. On february 25, 2018, he made the announcement during a Rythu Samanvaya Samiti meeting held at the Prof. Jayashankar telangana State Agriculture University.

A budgeted allocation of Rs 12,000 crore was given the same year, and on May 10, 2018, the programme was formally launched in the village of Dharmarajpalli in the karimnagar district. Rythu Bandhu, which gained a tremendous amount of support in the State, proved to be a ground-breaking project that compelled the BJP-led central government to adopt a similar national perspective. Rythu Bandhu served as an inspiration for the Center's PM Kisan Yojana and the BJD government's Kalia scheme in Odisha.
