There is an interesting and immensely useful observation made of late by the neuroscientists and physiologists. This helps in avoiding the unforeseen pitfalls and risks, inherent in any business or context or for that matter, in the routine issues of our life too. The study proves that the risk taking and winning behaviours are self reinforcing to the point of, ultimately turning up into callousness and thus ruin. As humans beings are not automatons they respond with the endocrines and emotions too in all their business endeavours. In such cases each winning occasion tends to further enhance the Testosterone levels in that winner. And testosterone is intricately linked with the risk taking behaviour and aggressiveness. It is so in athletics as well as the socio-economic endeavours. Thus with each bout of winning the bets in the game of business, a person tends to have more of the enhanced levels of testosterone. This leads him toward far more ‘bolder’ and riskier bets. All this finally leads him toward becoming callous or reckless in his bets. And what comes of this is the ultimate ruin.  Thus as per the above said study, it is important to watch the winners in your business, in order to ensure that they do not go in for the ruinous gambles. So, beware, it may not always be your mediocre or below average employee; who is causing the trouble in your business. It might turn up that it is your ace performer, who might end you up bankrupt. This study has focussed on the banking and the equity markets, in the most part. But, the routine social life too may not be exempt from the same kind of behavioural patterns and the consequences. It might be perhaps for this reasons alone, the greatest writer on the War strategy i.e. Clausewitz has warned long ago ‘that the defeated armies learn better.’ So, be wary of the winners and your perpetual winning streak... that may lead you to your waterloo...
