India plays a bad hand badly.
On Tuesday, 13 July, former Finance minister P.Chidambram addressed a press conference and said bjp Government’s pre-emptive steps for the pandemic’s third wave have just included the ramping up oxygen supply and the number of Covid beds. As the third wave might be worse, making people lose their jobs, income cuts, a good government must act to cushion people from the economic inflation.
The congress also accused that the government led by narendra modi has wrong policies and gauche economic management that caused the spike in inflation amid the pandemic. He also demanded to bring down the GST rates on certain items, apparently slammed the current finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman for their GST Council scant.
The thorniest problem was neglecting the second wave and heed its warnings. The reason behind the current inflation was not caused by a spurt in demand. On the contrary, the demand of the private consumer turned low. This inflation is not the result of high liquidity or too much money in the hands of the common man. The main reason behind the inflation has been caused only because of the wrong policies of the government and its inept management of the economy. The central government should immediately bring down, substantially, the prices of fuel and LPG, he added.
He also criticized the government's vaccination program, terming its promise of vaccinating all Adult citizens by december end as an "empty boast".
