Police in pondicherry have detained a guy for assaulting a traffic cop while under the influence of alcohol, and have posted a video of him apologising with a flour bundle in his hand. Vinayagam, 33, of Mangalam, pondicherry, was on duty as a police constable at the Villianur West traffic police Station when a two-wheeler collided with a police car at Madakadipattu on the Pondicherry-Villupuram district line last night.

The three people in the two-wheeler involved in the accident were all drunk, and when police officer Vinayagam was trying to take a photo of the vehicle involved in the accident, he overtook the traffic cop and tried to snatch his cellphone with inappropriate words, and was then attacked by one of the passengers. Residents in the neighbourhood recorded the police assault and shared it on social media. Tanraj was detained at the trivandrum police station after the victim traffic cop Vinayagam filed a complaint.

The two suspects were identified as being from the LR Palayam region of Villupuram district, with Vinod accompanying Tanraj in the attack on the traffic cop. Following this, police in thiruvananthapuram filed a report and arrested Vinod and Mahalingam. Both of them were hurt. Vinod was seen in an apologetic video with a fractured arm.
