The Prohibition and Excise Department has begun pursuing persons who try to import illegal alcohol into adjacent States. In order to combat this, authorities have developed a multifaceted plan that includes locating the origins, interstate gangs, and regional traffickers in the State.
With a particular focus on odisha, Goa, Delhi, Haryana, Karnataka, and maharashtra, teams are being put to work. These smugglers were discovered to be stockpiling illegal alcohol on the outskirts of the city, where it is then transported into the city. Recent inspections and investigations into incidents of illicit spirits smuggling have revealed that odisha was the primary source of the contraband. According to authorities at the excise department, it was discovered that illegal spirits was produced in odisha, followed by Karnataka, Haryana, and maharashtra for brands that were popular in the State. Small facilities are being set up covertly on the outskirts of the city where illegal alcohol is produced and locally sourced.

According to a source, smugglers are also establishing similar facilities in the border regions of odisha, Karnataka, and andhra pradesh where alcohol is produced and poured into the State under the pretext of regional spirits brands.

Investigations into recent incidents showed that tainted alcohol was being marketed in Ibrahimpatnam, Adibatla, Shamshabad, Hayathnagar, Medchal, and neighbouring rural regions, as well as in the Yadadri-Bhongir district. Alcohol that may be hazardous to the consumer was being prepared by combining rectified spirit with contaminated ingredients. To produce cheap whisky, chemicals and pigments were used with rectified alcohol. Additionally, several liquor store proprietors were discovered to be complicit in the scheme and aiding the growth of such smuggling groups in this area.
