Hyderabad is increasing the capacity of its Waste-to-Energy (WTE) plants from 24 MW to 101 MW and creating wealth out of waste as a model for other big metro areas in the nation to strive to and imitate.

A total of five additional plants with a combined capacity of 77 MW will be active by 2024 in addition to the 24 MW WTE plant at jawahar Nagar, which is currently fully operational. The five plants are being built in jawahar Nagar (24 MW), Dundigal (15 MW), Pyaranagar, medak district (15 MW), Yacharam (12 MW), and Bibinagar (11 MW), and they are all intended to build a sustainable future for hyderabad and its surrounding areas.
According to a representative of the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Department, once the facilities are up and running, they will be adequate to recycle the trash produced in hyderabad and the Urban local Bodies where they are being established for the next 30 years.

Around 1,500 tonnes of Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) are produced and processed daily at the jawahar Nagar facility, while five more plants under development have the potential to process 5,100 tonnes of RDF daily. RDF, which is made from combustible municipal solid waste, is used to create power.
