Recently, a news had come to the fore that a man had stabbed five people in Chhapra district of bihar over a
land dispute. All five belonged to the same family. Three people died and two were seriously injured in this
incident.
One such case came to the fore on 12 august 2023. There was a clash between two parties over a land dispute
in Buxar, Bihar. After this the matter got so heated that firing also started.
It is not a new thing to have a dispute over land in bihar and in the midst of that dispute, to kill one's own
family members. Over the years, this state has been infamous for the land dispute and the crimes being
committed due to it.
But it is surprising when, despite all the efforts and claims of the government, instead of solving the land
matters in this state, they are getting complicated and this is becoming the reason for increasing crime in the
state every year.
What do the figures say?
In fact, according to a report by NCRB, the reason behind 65 percent crime in bihar is land dispute. Apart
from this, chief minister Nitish Kumar had revealed in the assembly in the year 2022 that 60 percent of the
total murders in bihar are due to land disputes.
According to the 2021 report of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), the reason for every fifth
murder in bihar is a land dispute. According to statistics, in the year 2021, there were 1,081 murders in bihar,
out of which 635 murders took place due to land or property. Which means 59% of the murder cases are only
related to land or property disputes. Uttar Pradesh is at the second place in terms of crime due to land dispute.
Here in the year 2021, the reason for 227 murders was land or property dispute. maharashtra is at the third
place with 172 cases.
