The central government has presented a new bill in the lok sabha with many changes including banning the mobile network and banning telecom products at any moment.
Communications minister Ashwini Vaishnav presented the Telecom Bill. This bill was presented amid uproar and protests by the opposition parties raising the issue of security lapses in the Lok Sabha. The bill allows the central government to acquire any mobile network due to public emergency, public interest, safety and security of the country. The new bill states that a specially empowered officer on behalf of the central government or a state government can take over the mobile network on a temporary basis if it deems fit.
The new bill says the Center has the power to shut down any mobile network in national interest, national security and safety. The central government is empowered to prohibit the purchase and use of telecom products by any country or individual. biometric identification is now mandatory for anyone to buy a SIM in the country.
The new bill allows the central government to direct the transmission of any message, or any person, to any telecommunication device in view of the sovereignty, integrity, unity and security of India. In this regard, the Telecom Bill 2023 with many reforms and major changes has been presented in the Lok Sabha.
Many incidents have been reported about attempts by foreign powers to undermine India's integrity and create unrest in the country. This effort continues in many forms. Keeping all these developments in mind, the central government has now introduced the Telecom Bill with many reforms.
