Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia appeared before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of punjab police in patiala district on tuesday (January 16) in the drug case. During this, the SIT interrogated him for about six hours. The former minister was summoned by the SIT led by Deputy Inspector General (Patiala Range) Harcharan Singh Bhullar. In view of Majithia's appearance before the SIT, tight security arrangements were made around the police lines in Patiala. Many Akali workers had gathered in support of Majithia. Majithia later told reporters that a 'false' case had been registered against him.
Taking aim at the punjab chief minister, Majithia said that bhagwant mann is trying to suppress the voice of those who expose him and question him. The senior Akali leader said that he is a law abiding citizen and respects the law. Before Majithia, on december 30, the SIT led by the then Additional director General of police Mukhwinder Singh Chhina had interrogated the drug case. Earlier on december 18, the SIT had interrogated him. After Chhina's retirement on december 31, punjab police formed a new SIT under the chairmanship of Bhullar.
Majithia was booked under the NDPS Act related to drug prohibition on december 20, 2021, when the congress government led by then chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi was in power. This action was taken on the basis of the 2018 report of the Anti-Drug Special Task Force. The FIR was lodged by the State Crime Branch at its Mohali police station. Majithia remained in patiala jail for more than five months and came out of jail in august 2022 after being granted bail by the punjab and haryana High Court.
