He contested from the Mauganj seat of Rewa but lost to Sukhendra Singh Banna of Congress. Then, in 2018, the bjp did not give the ticket to Laxman Tiwari. Then Tiwari rebelled and contested the elections as an independent. Even then he had to face defeat. After some time he again joined BJP.

Laxman Tiwari has also been a part of the Samajwadi Party.

Not only this, Laxman Tiwari again left the bjp and joined the membership of Samajwadi party in the year 2023. Laxman Tiwari had contested the 2023 assembly elections from Sirmaur on the SP ticket. Along with this, congress is the fourth party of Laxman Tiwari.
