Voting is to be held on 13 seats in the fifth phase in Maharashtra. bjp has made Union minister piyush goyal its mumbai North candidate. After Goyal was made the candidate, the opposition has called him an outsider. Meanwhile, Goyal has countered the statements of maha Vikas Aghadi leaders. Goyal said, "They are helpless and giving ridiculous arguments." shiv sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut and congress leader varsha Gaikwad said, "No one can be more Mumbaikar than me," Goyal said during a road show here in response to the opposition's question on him being an outsider. piyush goyal was called an 'outsider'.

Goyal had given his residential address as Malabar Hill, which is an area around Peddar Road, an affluent area of South Mumbai. He said, "This is a very ridiculous argument. Not even worth answering. I am a born Mumbaikar. I have lived in mumbai all my life, worked in mumbai all my life."

Taking aim at the MVA leaders, Goyal asked, "Have you heard anyone saying that I am a North Mumbaikar? They are helpless, visionless and leaderless. And hence giving such easy arguments." The bjp leader also accused the opposition congress and uddhav Thackeray-led shiv sena (UBT) of trying to divide mumbai into different parts.

Goyal is contesting against congress candidate bhushan Patil, who had contested the 2009 maharashtra assembly elections from Borivali assembly constituency of mumbai North parliamentary seat. The Union minister said that as per the opposition's logic, former maharashtra minister Gaikwad, who is contesting against bjp candidate Ujjwal Nikam from mumbai North Central, is herself an outsider to the constituency as she hails from Dharavi, which is in the mumbai South Central parliamentary constituency.
