The effect of Cyclone Remal in West bengal is also being seen in Mizoram. It is raining continuously in different areas here. Due to which a stone mine collapsed. So far 21 people have died in this accident. Two minors are also among the dead. While more than half a dozen people are missing.

Disaster management and police officials said that so far 21 bodies have been recovered from the mine site between Melthum and Hilimen in Aizawl district. Many others are still trapped under the debris. NDRF, police and locals are engaged in rescue operations. Officials said that the rescue operation is being affected due to heavy rains and strong winds. Seven of the victims are local, while the rest are from outside the state.

Houses broken, trees uprooted

The victims of the accident also include a minor boy and a minor girl, while two people have been rescued alive. Landslides were also reported in many other districts due to rain. Two people died and some others went missing at various places due to landslides. Movement of vehicles between the districts has been disrupted.

Aizawl has been cut off from the rest of the country due to several landslides on National Highway-6, the lifeline of the hill state. Many buildings, trees, roads and bridges have been damaged due to landslides and heavy rains.
