
RJD supremo Lalu prasad Yadav's elder son and former bihar minister Tej Pratap Yadav has got relief from the Rouse Avenue Court. Permission has been granted to travel abroad. Tej Pratap Yadav is an accused in the 'land for job' scam and is currently on bail. The court has allowed him to go to maldives from May 17 to May 23 with a condition. Special Judge vishal Gogne said that an accused cannot be stopped from going abroad only on the ground that there are serious allegations against him. It is a fundamental right of a person to travel abroad, even if he is an accused. It is paramount that the process of justice should not be hindered.
What is the matter?
This case is related to the alleged scam in which Lalu prasad Yadav is accused of getting land in the name of his family or close associates in exchange for jobs in the indian Railways between 2004 and 2009 while he was the Railway Minister. According to the FIR lodged by the cbi, there were huge irregularities in the appointments of Group D in West Central Railway, jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh) zone.
It is alleged that lands located in patna and other places were taken from many candidates at very cheap prices or free of cost in exchange for jobs, which were later found in the name of people associated with the Lalu family. On May 18, 2022, the cbi had registered a case against Lalu Yadav, his wife Rabri Devi, daughters, Tej Pratap Yadav and many unknown officials and private persons in this case. Tej Pratap Yadav was granted bail by the court on march 11, 2025, when he appeared in the court in response to the summons.
What are the conditions of the court?
A bail amount of Rs 25 lakh will have to be deposited.
His place of stay in maldives, hotel address, complete travel plan and mobile number used during that time will have to be presented in the court.
The travel period cannot be extended under any circumstances.
