The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a notice to the bihar government and the state police chief on reports that a rape victim who died in Patna's PMCH allegedly lay in an ambulance for several hours before being given a bed in the hospital. A detailed report has been sought on this.

The NHRC said in a statement on monday (02 june, 2025) that a nine-year-old girl was "tortured" in muzaffarpur district on May 26 and was brought to patna Medical college and Hospital (PMCH) in critical condition on May 30. If the content of the news is true, it raises a serious issue of violation of human rights.

Two weeks' time given for the report

The NHRC said that a notice has been issued to the Chief Secretary and director General of police (DGP) of bihar in this regard and a detailed report has been sought in two weeks. The notice issued states that the NHRC has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report stating that a nine-year-old girl, who was raped and brutally attacked on june 1, died at PMCH (Patna). She reportedly lay in the ambulance for several hours before getting a bed in the hospital for treatment.

The statement also said that according to the media report on june 1, the culprit had earlier committed a similar crime with another 12-year-old girl and tried to kill her. Let us tell you that the government has also been attacked by the opposition regarding this incident.
