The Indian postal Department (DoP) has taken a major step forward in modernising its logistics network by launching a new premium service called “24 Speed Post,” aimed at delivering urgent consignments within 24 hours (next‑day delivery). The service was formally unveiled on March17,2026, by Union minister for Communications Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia in New Delhi.

🚀 What Is “24 Speed Post”?

24 Speed Post is a time‑bound premium express delivery service under the Speed Post umbrella, designed to cater to urgent and time‑sensitive shipments. It guarantees that items booked under this category will be delivered by the next day after booking (D+1) — a major enhancement compared with traditional Speed Post timelines that could take several days.

Alongside 24 Speed Post, the postal department also launched:

  • 24 Speed Post Parcel – Next‑day delivery for parcels
  • 48 Speed Post – Delivery within two days (D+2)

📍 Where Is It Available?

In the first phase, the service will be available between six major metropolitan cities:

  • Delhi
  • Mumbai
  • Chennai
  • Kolkata
  • Bengaluru
  • Hyderabad

These routes cover key business and logistics corridors that see high volumes of time‑sensitive consignments. Plans are underway to expand the service to more cities in subsequent phases.

📦 Key Features and Benefits

✅ Guaranteed Delivery Timeline

  • 24 Speed Post: Delivery by next day (D+1).
  • 48 Speed Post: Delivery by second day (D+2).
This is backed by a money‑back guarantee if the delivery commitment is not met, providing added confidence to customers.

🔐 Secure and Trackable

The services include advanced features such as:

  • OTP‑based delivery verification to ensure secure handover
  • End‑to‑end tracking with real‑time SMS alerts
These enhance both security and transparency for senders and recipients.

📊 Business‑Friendly Options

For bulk and corporate customers, india Post is also offering:

  • API integration for automated booking
  • Centralised billing to streamline accounting
  • Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) facility for eligible customers
  • Free pickup for bulk bookings in certain cases

💸 Pricing and Parcel Limits

According to rollout reports:

  • Pricing for 24‑hour delivery of documents starts at around 38 for up to 50 g and goes up to about 186 for heavier items over long distances.
  • 24 Speed Post Parcel pricing begins at approximately 200 for parcels up to 500 g and scales up for heavier items near the 5 kg limit.

Items up to 5kg can use the 24 Speed Post services, making it suitable for both documents and lightweight parcels.

🛫 Why This Matters

This launch marks a strategic push by india Post into the fast‑growing express logistics segment, traditionally dominated by private couriers. The new services:

  • Cater to e‑commerce platforms, SMEs and businesses that demand quick turnaround for shipments.
  • Help india Post evolve from a traditional mail service to a modern, technology‑driven logistics provider.
  • Offer competitive alternatives to private express delivery options — but at lower or comparable costs.

Communications minister Scindia highlighted that expanding parcel and express delivery services will help position India Post as a key logistics partner for e‑commerce players and other high‑volume mail users.

🗓️ Delivery on Sundays and Holidays

Another major advantage of the new services is that deliveries will continue seven days a week, including Sundays and public holidays, ensuring uninterrupted logistics support for urgent consignments.

📌 In Summary

With the launch of 24 Speed Post, india Post has introduced a next‑day guaranteed delivery service in six major cities, equipped with modern tracking, secure verification, business tools, and a refund promise for delays. This initiative significantly upgrades India’s traditional postal network and brings it closer to global express delivery standards.
