Diwali is celebrated on Kartik Amavasya and this year the festival of diwali will be celebrated on monday 24 October. Many of us know that 20 days after killing Ravana, Lord Shri ram, Goddess Sita and lakshman came back to ayodhya and for this reason, diwali is celebrated, but many beliefs and traditions are also associated with this festival. Lord krishna killed the demon Narakasura in Dwapara yuga because that demon had kidnapped 16 thousand women. Then Lord krishna freed those women from his captivity. Every year lamps are lit on the full moon day of Kartik month in the joy of killing Narakasura and freedom from his terror.

Pandavas got their own kingdom

According to the Pauranik story, when the Kauravas had taken the reigns of the Pandavas by deceit and they had to go on exile for 13 years. When the Pandavas came back from exile, the Mahabharata took place between the Kauravas and them. When the Pandavas entered the city after winning the war, the townpeople welcomed them by lighting a lamp and even then deepawali was celebrated.

King Bali got the king of Sutla Lok

According to another story, when Lord vishnu took the form of Vamana by donating three steps of land from king Bali, he took everything and made him the king of Sutala Loka. When the people living in Sutala came to know about this, they welcomed them by lighting a lamp. That's why the tradition of celebrating this diwali is going on.

When Shri lakshmi returned to heaven again

Once enraged, sage Durvasa cursed indra that heaven would become devoid and due to this curse, Goddess lakshmi had to leave heaven along with Lord vishnu and go to the sea. After this, there was a war between the gods and the demons and the ocean was churned and then Goddess lakshmi also appeared with many gems from it. Goddess lakshmi had blessed Lord Narayan and only then this diwali started being celebrated.
