Sabarimala is one of the diving Hindu Pilgrimage centre which is situated at Western Ghat mountain ranges of Pathanamthitta District. Each year more than 50 Million devotees are visiting this temple and they believe that this is the place where God Ayyappan meditated after killing the powerful demoness Mahishi.
Around this temple there are 18 hills. The Temple is located at an hill top which is above 1535 feet from sea level. Each hills have each temple and every one have various functions. Temples exist in places like Nilakkal, Kalaketi, and Karimala. This temple is just for men of all ages.
Women are not allowed inside and various reasons are being said. One among them is women tend to bleed and they consider that as disgusting factor. Men who are said to be a Sabarimala pilgrim will never shave and will be spotted wearing black dress till they complete the pilgrimage tour.
A senior member said Women between age 10 and 50 were not allowed as they are having menstrual cycles. This is just because of the fact that Ayyappan is a celibate.
