The seriousness of this rebranding endeavour may be seen in the fact that only organisations having the word "Hindu" in their titles and a public declaration of their religious affiliation have been invited. A celebration to mark the 75th anniversary of India's Independence Day, known in india as Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, has been relegated to a sideshow spot in the summit flyer because it is being hosted by the American Association of Physicians of indian Origin (AAPI), a powerful organisation despite not having the word "Hindu" in its name. As a result of COVID-19, it virtually hosted prime minister Narendra Modi at its 2020 annual meeting.

Some of the organisations taking part in the conference have been politically engaged for some time, supporting politicians in both state and federal elections by raising money. Each of these organisations has been supporting candidates for federal and state political office for some time. In the 2019–20 election season, Americans 4 (also known as "for") Hindus raised $228,311 in donations, according to Open Secrets, a website that records election funding in the US. He donated much of his money to Republicans. In the same time frame, the Hindu American PAC raised $55,833 and donated to both Republicans and Democrats.
