In the ritual of vermilion played on the day of immersion, women touch the cheeks of the Devi with betel leaves and apply vermilion on the forehead. After doing this, paan and sweets are offered to Goddess Durga. After worshipping Durga devi, all the women apply vermilion to each other.

This ritual is being performed in bengal for centuries. Where along with this ritual, the people of the bengali community also play the tradition of the Dhunuchi dance.
