Glenn Maxwell saved his most furious outburst for after his century against the netherlands, this time off the field, when he blasted the world cup organisers' mid-match light show during Australia's decisive 309-run triumph. Maxwell, dubbed 'The Big Show' for his aggressive batting, wasn't a fan of the two-minute show that turned the arun jaitley stadium in New Delhi, where the netherlands were chasing a tough 400-run goal, into a veritable nightclub complete with flashing lights and pounding music.

Citing a previous Big Bash game at Perth Stadium, Maxwell voiced his distaste for the light display, claiming it caused him to have terrible headaches and required some time for his eyes to adjust. 

"I had something like that light show happen at Perth Stadium during a Big Bash game," Maxwell said after recording the fastest century in 50-over world cup history.

"I just felt like it gave me shocking headaches and it takes me a while for my eyes to re-adjust and I just think it's the dumbest idea for cricketers.

“So I just try and cover up as much as I possibly can and ignore it but it's a horrible, horrible idea. Great for the fans, horrible for the players.”

David Warner, his colleague who also scored a century in the game against the netherlands, however, held a different viewpoint. Retweeting a tweet that included Maxwell's comments on the light display, Warner—who is still quite active on social media—disputed with his own teammate.

Warner tweeted, “I absolutely loved the light show, what an atmosphere. It's all about the fans. Without you all we won't be able to do what we love.”
