The bcci is set to grant rahul dravid another two-year contract, but for the time being, the governing body wants the head coach to oversee the team during the tour to south africa while the formalities are worked out. Dravid has a terrific record in the last two years, and many people in the bcci think that maintaining him will allow the senior squad to have consistency.

"During the previous week, bcci secretary Jay Shah met with Dravid. Obviously, the new contract's small print has yet to be sorted out. "But the bcci wants Dravid to go to south africa with the Test team," a top bcci official said on condition of anonymity to PTI. So, will he be willing to go on a tour without signing a contract? "The contract will be worked out but the Test series is important and even if he doesn't go for the T20I series in SA, he can join (the team) from the ODIs," a person familiar with the matter said.

In the case of VVS Laxman, he may coach the team throughout the first portion of the series, allowing him to assess the 'A' team firsthand. "Laxman's hands are full with NCA work, and another U19 world cup is on the horizon." A team excursion to south africa is planned. "He is also involved in cricketing matters with regards to construction of a new NCA facility which is in full swing," the insider went on to say.
