Is the Elder god Chthon the genuine threat confronting doctor Strange and the Scarlet Witch in doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness? The doctor Strange followup, the culmination of the multiversal saga that has been playing through Phase 4 of the Marvel Universe, is generating a lot of buzz. The doctor Strange 2 preview suggests that the multiverse will be torn open as a consequence of stephen Strange's rituals in Spider-Man: No Way Home, which is hilarious given as they involved wiping Strange's own recollection of Peter Parker.

Several enemies appeared in the doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness promo. It includes a glimpse of doctor Strange fighting Shuma-Gorath, one of his most terrifying adversaries in the books, who has been renamed Gargantos in the MCU. Conversely, the doctor Strange 2 teaser hinted that the main adversary might be stephen Strange himself, with a sight of the evil doctor Strange from Marvel's What If...? and foreboding language implying that Strange is fighting a terrible version of himself from another reality.

Either scenario would be a good fit for the movie's multiverse concepts, and it's easy to understand why Marvel would be interested in either. doctor Strange as a scoundrel variation would be the perfect mirror image monster, as Shuma-Gorath has swallowed multiple universes in the comics, and doctor Strange proven himself suitable becoming the Sorcerer supreme by defeating Shuma-Gorath in combat.
