In the house of the Dragon season 1 finale, Daemon and Rhaenyra's relationship takes a turn for the worse as they continue to drift apart throughout the dance of the Dragons. Rhaenyra and Daemon appeared to be one of the few house of the Dragon couples united both out of love and politics, in contrast to the Targaryen uncle and niece who wed after a decade-long obsession, marriages with others, and the birth of multiple children. However, Daemon chokes Rhaenyra in house of the Dragon season 1, episode 10, which depicts an entirely different aspect of their relationship.

Rhaenyra and Daemon's marriage deteriorates even though they appear to be the most compatible couple in house of the Dragon while the Targaryen civil war goes on. According to the narrators' tales in George R.R. Martin's fire & Blood, Daemon would defraud Rhaenyra of two important figures in house of the Dragon. Daemon and Rhaenyra will also be away for the majority of the war, even though they are still married and reign together. According to fire & Blood, Rhaenyra doesn't mind Daemon's absence or extramarital affairs. The most significant couple in house of the Dragon's future is still Daemon and Rhaenyra, but their romance symbolises the moral relativism of the characters.

The erratic Daemon has always been someone who looks for excitement because he gets bored easily in situations he may regard as monotonous. The fact that Daemon would leave his marriage in order to enjoy himself with women like Mysaria, a.k.a. the White Worm, shouldn't come as a huge surprise. Mysaria was Daemon's initial love interest in season one of house of the Dragon, and now that she is in charge of King's Landing's most well-known spy operation, she will be crucial to the Black party's political strategy under Rhaenyra and Daemon. Daemon and Mysaria will revert to their previous romantic patterns as they try to exact revenge on the Greens and learn their secrets.
