Burton was ideal to help bring wednesday to life, despite what would appear like his overzealous commitment to Wednesday's haircut. Burton was already attached to oversee the live-action Addams Family movie in 1991 before deciding to focus on directing Batman Returns and a stop-motion animated remake of the series in the early 2010s that was abandoned while still in development. Audiences were eager to watch Burton's adaptation of the Addams Family after his recent string of gothic-influenced films, including Edward Scissorhands and Beetlejuice.

Along with the general aesthetics of the programme, it became apparent that Burton was aware of the popularity of the live-action Addams Family movies from the 1990s when casting the show. Along with co-creators and showrunners alfred Gough and Miles Millar, he not only recast Christina Ricci, who had previously garnered praise for her portrayal of wednesday in the movies, but also successfully recreated the dynamic between Gomez and Morticia, played by Raul Julia and Anjelica Huston, with Luis Guzmán and catherine Zeta-Jones.

In her major part on wednesday, Ortega provided a lot of noteworthy attention to detail. In addition to choreographing her viral wednesday dance routine, the young star noted immediately after its broadcast that keen-eyed viewers may have noticed her Addams Family character never blinks on camera. She has subsequently expressed regret for how some of it went. One can only hope that Burton stays on as the director for at least one episode of wednesday season 2 to make sure Wednesday's hair is preserved in perfect condition.
