Apple is reportedly gearing up to venture into consumer robotics, with plans for a WALL-E-like tabletop robot companion slated for launch by 2027, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. This innovative device aims to serve dual functions as a smart assistant and personal companion, potentially becoming a cornerstone of Apple's AI strategy.


The design concept resembles an iPad mounted on a movable arm, allowing the robot to swivel, reposition itself, and track individuals as they navigate a room. It is anticipated that the device will support FaceTime calls, but the most significant advancement may come from an upgraded version of Siri. Gurman suggests that this new siri could engage in conversations among multiple people and retain information from previous interactions, enhancing its utility in everyday life.


Additionally, apple is contemplating giving siri a visual identity featuring an animated Finder logo, although the design is still under review. In tandem with the robot, the company is exploring the development of a smart speaker with a built-in display, which may evolve into a future iteration of the HomePod.


Apple is also working on another AI initiative involving smart security cameras, codenamed J450. These cameras are expected to incorporate features like facial recognition, infrared sensors, and automation capabilities to enhance home security and convenience.


At the core of these advancements is a more conversational Siri, capable of understanding natural language and executing complex tasks. Internally referred to as LLM Siri, this upgraded assistant will utilize a new architecture based on large language models, integrating personal user data more effectively. The system will leverage Apple's proprietary technology, Linwood, alongside external tech known as Glenwood. Reports suggest that apple is testing Anthropic's Claude AI, with the enhanced siri experience potentially debuting as early as next spring.
