Instagram occasionally releases companion apps, like Edits, which help you enhance photos and videos. If you no longer want to use the app—or are concerned about data privacy—you can safely uninstall it and manage your account data.

Step 1: Uninstall the Edits App

On Android:

Open SettingsApps & notifications

Scroll to Instagram Edits or similar app

Tap Uninstall

Confirm by tapping OK

On iOS (iPhone/iPad):

Locate the app on your home Screen

Press and hold the icon until a menu appears

Tap Remove AppDelete App

Confirm deletion

This removes the app from your device but doesn’t automatically delete your data stored by Instagram.

Step 2: Remove Instagram’s Access to the Edits App

To ensure no leftover connections:

Open InstagramSettingsSecurity

Tap Apps and Websites

Check Active apps

Find Edits (or similar) and tap Remove Access

This prevents the companion app from accessing your instagram account or personal info.

Step 3: Manage Your instagram Data

If you’re concerned about personal data:

Open InstagramSettingsSecurityDownload Data

Enter your email and request a copy of your data

Instagram will email a file containing your photos, videos, messages, and account info

You can review this to ensure nothing sensitive remains accessible.

Step 4: Clear Cache & Residual Files (Optional but Recommended)

Android:

  • Go to SettingsStorageCached DataClear Cache

iOS:

  • Reinstalling instagram and logging out/in can help refresh cache and remove residual files

Step 5: Stay Safe with Third-Party Apps

  • Avoid granting instagram credentials to unofficial apps
  • Periodically check Apps and Websites in instagram settings
  • Use two-factor authentication (2FA) to protect your account

Summary:

Uninstall the Edits app

Revoke its access in Instagram

Download your data if needed

Clear residual files or cache

Monitor third-party access and enable 2FA
