With actor Kit Harington committed to returning, HBO is creating a Game of Thrones prequel series centred on the ongoing exploits of Jon Snow. When HBO premiered Game of Thrones in 2011, George R.R. Martin's best-selling fantasy epic A Song of Ice and fire became television gold. Three years after season 8 brought an end to it, the network is still highly interested in continuing the franchise with a number of spinoffs. In august of this year, house of the Dragon will make its debut.

Throughout the span of Game of Thrones, Harington's Jon Snow played a significant role. As an honourable bastard, Jon would be essential to the show's changing plots. Most famously, he was included in one of the show's major twists when he was killed off in season 5 only to be returned later. At the conclusion of Game of Thrones, Jon was exiled from Westeros for murdering his lover and recently revealed aunt, Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke); he then travelled north beyond the Wall with the Wildlings and appeared to have found peace.

It now appears that the state of tranquilly might not survive for very long. According to THR, HBO is now working on a prospective Jon Snow-focused Game of Thrones prequel series. Even though the show is still in its very early stages of development, Harington is committed to returning as Jon. At this time, no members of the creative team have been disclosed.
