Demand Grows for Early Completion of bus Stand Project
Residents and daily commuters in chidambaram have urged authorities to expedite the ongoing construction work at the town’s bus stand, which has become a major public concern due to delays and inconvenience.
The demand has intensified as the old bus stand building, located in Cuddalore district, is more than 45 years old and was reportedly in a deteriorated condition before redevelopment work began.
Old Structure Considered Unsafe
According to local residents, the existing bus stand infrastructure had become inadequate to handle the growing number of passengers and buses operating through the town. Cracks in the structure, poor drainage facilities, overcrowding, and lack of modern amenities had raised safety concerns among commuters for several years.
Considering the condition of the old building, authorities initiated plans to reconstruct and modernize the bus stand with improved passenger facilities and better traffic management.
Commuters Facing Daily Difficulties
As construction work continues, passengers, shopkeepers, and transport workers are facing several inconveniences. Temporary arrangements made for bus operations have reportedly led to congestion, delays, and limited waiting space for travelers.
Daily commuters stated that elderly passengers, women, and students are particularly affected due to inadequate shelter and lack of proper seating arrangements at the temporary bus boarding points.
Local traders around the bus stand area have also expressed concern over reduced customer movement and disruptions caused by the prolonged construction work.
Public Expects Modern Facilities
Residents are expecting the new bus stand to include modern infrastructure such as:
Spacious bus bays
Improved sanitation facilities
Passenger waiting halls
Drinking water facilities
Better lighting and security arrangements
Parking space and traffic regulation systems
Many people believe that a modernized bus stand will improve connectivity and support commercial growth in chidambaram, which is an important educational, religious, and tourist center.
Appeal to Authorities
Members of the public have appealed to the district administration and transport authorities to speed up the construction process and complete the project at the earliest for the benefit of commuters and local businesses.
