The supreme court has ruled in favor of sex workers. Sensational verdict that voluntary prostitution is not a crime. police have issued orders to the media not to harass them. Determined not to harass them in any way. To this extent all the States have given directions to all the Union Territories. It also advised media outlets not to publish photos of sex workers caught anywhere. Asked to give to sex workers just as much as to give everyone respect.

Ordered that physical assault on sex workers should not be verbal harassment. The police have to behave politely with sex workers. The bench comprising Justice Lau Nageswara Rao, Justice BR Gawai and Justice AS Bopanna passed the order recently.

It said action could be taken under IPC 354C against publishers who publish photos or write news to identify sex workers. The supreme court has directed the press Council of india to issue appropriate guidelines in this regard. It also endorsed the recommendations made by a committee appointed by the supreme court regarding sex workers. It directed that all the State Governments and all the Union Territories must abide by these recommendations.

However, the supreme court has ruled that while prostitution is not illegal, it is illegal to run brothels. The court ruled that sex workers who volunteered there should not be arrested when such brothels were raided. It also clarified that arresting or harassing those sex workers should not be punished. The court also ruled that if any sex worker is sexually assaulted, they should be given the same facilities as others. As well as providing medical services.

It is an offense under Section 354C of the newly introduced IPC to view the sexual activity of others. The supreme court has therefore directed that this section be strictly enforced on electronic media. The court issued clear orders not to publish photos of sex workers in the name of rescue operations publishing their details.

It also made it clear that if sex workers kept condoms with them for their health protection, the police would not be able to take action against them based on them. It also said that Aadhaar card should be issued to all sex workers. Ordered not to mention sex worker on them when they give.
