The first tanker with 4.8 tonnes of medical-grade oxygen left the Sterlite plant in Tuticorin today morning at 7.10 am. The first oxygen produced was sent to tirunelveli government Hospital. Thoothukudi district collector Senthil raj made a formal announcement. The oxygen tanker was sent with huge police protection. The second wave of Corona has caused huge destruction and lots of patients are suffering without Oxygen.


Vedanta came forward to re-open the Sterlite plant to produce oxygen and Thoothukudi court granted permission for the production of Oxygen. As the death toll increases every day, the Sterlite plant was granted permission to produce Oxygen. Vedanta appealed to the supreme court regarding restarting the plant as they are capable of producing Thousand Metric tonnes of oxygen every day and that would be really helpful in meeting India's oxygen demands right now. 


The plant also came forward to give the oxygen free of cost without expecting anything in return. Thoothukudi collector who met the press said this first set of oxygen is sent to tirunelveli district government hospital and sooner the oxygen will be sent to other parts and that will be decided by the Medical Council. This oxygen which is produced will be used for Souther parts of tamil Nadu.
