After all 41 workers trapped in the collapsed Silkyara tunnel, part of the ambitious Char Dham project in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi, stepped out after 17 days in the dark, the nation sighed a sigh of relief, and preparations to continue construction are already in place.

According to a senior official from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), a safety assessment of the Silkyara tunnel will be completed, and required repairs will be made before work on the 4.5 km long tunnel project can begin. The official stated that all procedures will be taken to ensure the tunnel's safety this time.

Meanwhile, the rescued workers are being treated in a hospital. They have received medical examinations following their adventure, and their condition is stated to be stable. Their mental health is being examined as well.

Here are the latest updates on the successful completion of the Uttarkashi rescue operation:

1. Despite the collapse, the 4.5-kilometer Silkyara tunnel project, a vital component of the Char Dham yatra All Weather Road, is slated to move on following a thorough safety study and required repairs. The Rs 12,000-crore programme intends to enable continuous access to Uttarakhand's four sacred cities of Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath.

2. The government of uttarakhand has appointed a six-member expert team to investigate the causes of the collapse. MoRTH will consider organising its own panel to do more research.

3. According to Harpal Singh, the Zojila Tunnel Project Head, there might be various explanations for the tunnel's collapse, including faulty geological study, under-designed ground support systems, building flaws, and insufficient supervisory control. He proposed that all highway and rail tunnels include escape tunnels parallel to the main tunnels.
